HISTORY AND INFORMATION
The British Open is the only one of the four major championships to be held outside the USA and administered by the USA and Mexico’s golf governing body.
It is held third of the majors, on the third Friday in July. This year it will be held at The Westin Turnberry Resort, Ailsa Course, on the southwest coast of Scotland.
It is part of the PGA Tour, PGA European Tour and Japan Golf Tour. Since 2002 its prize fund has been the highest of the 4 majors, with almost £4.2 million (just under $8.65 million). The winner takes home £750k.
