2010 GRAND NATIONAL BETTING TIPS
Unfortunately the size, complexity and luck factor involved in doing well in this behemoth of a race makes it tricky to give good Grand National racing tips.
There are a few factors that can guide you though. These are:
Breeding: historically certain nationalities of horse do worse, so, if you want to play the odds, steer clear of the French. The Irish have had all the luck for the last few years though.
Headgear: Blinkered, visored or cheekpieced runners don’t fair well, avoid them.
Jockey Weight: Unless its Red Rum, avoid horses carrying over 11stone, it doesn’t end well.
Age: As a guide don’t go below 8 years old. Double figures are often where the money goes.
GRAND NATIONAL 2010 ODDS AND SELECTED BETS
Well, despite my recommendation above not to go for horses younger than 8 years old, I like the look of Big Fella Thanks (10/1 at Paddy Power), a seven year old, who came sixth at the 2009 National. This horse has all the attributes to be a National Winner and is definitely worth an each way bet.

GRAND NATIONAL HISTORY AND INFORMATION
The Grand National is the pinnacle of the racing year, drawing the imagination (and betting) of millions. It is comprised of 2 circuits of a 2¼-mile course as well as 30 of the most challenging and best-known fences in horse racing. This really is one of the toughest courses in racing, in 1928 only two horses finished (and one of those had remounted) and in 2001 only four horses finished (2 of which remounted).
The results for the last 5 years are:
- 2004 : Amberleigh House ridden by G Lee, trained by D McCain with 16/ 1 odds.
- 2005 : Hedgehunter trained by W P Mullins, ridden by R Walsh on 7/1 odds.
- 2006 : Numbersixvalverde trained by Martin Brassil, ridden by N P Madden at 11/1.
- 2007 : Silver Birch ridden by R M Power and trained by Gordon Elliott with 33/1 odds.
- 2008 : Comply Or Die who was trained by D E Pipe and ridden by Timmy Murphy at 7/1.
- 2009: Mon Mome, ridden by Liam Treadwell, trained by Venetia Williams. Odds of 100/1.
