The US Masters golf tournament kicks off in Augusta today and is one of the most open in years.

Tiger Woods has only recently returned from reconstructive surgery on his knee, but has won three events since his return. Tiger is looking in ominous form going into the first day of the US Masters.
Last year’s winner, Padraig Harrington, has not been in good form going into the Masters – he hasn’t placed in the top 10 of his last six events and, frankly, he doesn’t sound confident about his own chances.
Backing Harrington would be a mistake for the 2009 US Masters Tournament.
Smart money might be on Phil Mickelson, though. As the man in form, with two wins in his last four events, he has the game to win the tournament and should not be underestimated.
Patriotic Irish punters might be tempted by youngster Rory McIlroy’s odds, but realistically, it is a year or two too soon for the 19 year old. However, with Paddy Power offering each way odds on places 1-6, the price of 33/1 on McIlroy is a tempting one – click to bet at Paddy Power now.
