MASTERS ROUND THREE BETTING AND PREVIEW

Day two of the US Masters at Augusta saw overnight leader Chad Campbell maintain his position at the top of the leaderboard. An impressive, confident first sixteen from this outsider was only undone by double bogeys on the last two holes.

But Campbell is at -9 at the half way point and must now represent a great value each way bet.

Day one of the US Masters saw a record number of players under par, but with some of the bigger names five or so shots off the pace. Plenty of time to make up the deficit, but day two of the US Masters is going to be critical.

See the day two leaderboard and round three preview here.

US MASTERS LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS

Right now, Chad Campbell (18/1 at William Hill ) is the tournament leader at -7, with the brilliantly named Hunter Mahan ( 18/1 at William Hill )and Jim Furyk (12/1 at Bet365 ) one back at six under.

Tiger Woods (9/5 at Bet365) is five back on -2, with Padraig Harrington (12/1 at Ladbrokes ) one shot ahead and Phil Mickelson (33/1 at William Hill) on a not entirely impressive 1 over.

Harrington feels that the greens were “generous” on the opening day and that “it’s going to be a little tougher as we go on”.
US MASTERS BETTING ODDS

So, it’s probably unwise to put all your hard earned cash on Campbell to win it outright, but Harrington himself is looking good value for the top placed European at 5/2 with William Hill.

US MASTERS ROUND TWO : 3 BALL BETTING TIPS

Lee Westwood is going out with Bernhard Langer and Greg Norman at 18:08 today, which will mean entertainment if nothing else. Westwood is favourite in the 3 ball betting, but if yesterday was anything to go by, they are very evenly matched.

I’ll take Langer to win the 3 ball today at 3/1 with William Hill.

Also Ernie Els to come back from a poor three over yesterday to win the 3 balls with Geoff Ogilvy and Vijay Singh. Els is 5/2 with Victor Chandler

The US Masters golf tournament kicks off in Augusta today and is one of the most open in years.

See the day two leaderboard and round three preview here.

Tiger Woods has only recently returned from reconstructive surgery on his knee, but has won three events since his return. Tiger is looking in ominous form going into the first day of the US Masters.

Last year’s winner, Padraig Harrington, has not been in good form going into the Masters – he hasn’t placed in the top 10 of his last six events and, frankly, he doesn’t sound confident about his own chances.

Backing Harrington would be a mistake for the 2009 US Masters Tournament.

Smart money might be on Phil Mickelson, though. As the man in form, with two wins in his last four events, he has the game to win the tournament and should not be underestimated.

Patriotic Irish punters might be tempted by youngster Rory McIlroy’s odds, but realistically, it is a year or two too soon for the 19 year old. However, with Paddy Power offering each way odds on places 1-6, the price of 33/1 on McIlroy is a tempting one – click to bet at Paddy Power now.

Tied with Phil Mickelson going into the final round of the WGC-CA Golf tournament, Nick Watney is in contention to win his first World Golf Championship event.

Watney and Mickelson are both four shots ahead of their nearest rivals Jeev Singh and Camilo Villegas and each of the leaders has been showing solid form over the previous three days.

While Mickelson is an old hand at this kind of thing, Watney is a comparative novice and I suspect he will not have the mental toughness to carry him through the final day.

Four shots is a lot to make up and I don’t see the chasing pack doing it, so Phil Mickelson is my favourite to win the WGC CA Championship 2009.

Best Odds on Mickelson To Win WGC-CA : 4/6 at Victor Chandler – Click To Bet

Best Odds on Watney To Win WGC-CA : 11/4 at Bet365 – Click To Bet

Other WGC Golf Betting Tips

Taking the two front-runners out of the equation, Camilo Villegas must be the favourite in the ‘without Mickelson and Watney’ betting market.

Villegas is a top ten player with a power game and is more than capable of finishing in the top three of this tournament.

Best Odds on Villegas in the ‘Without Mickelson and Watney Market’ : 10/3 at SkyBet – Click To Bet Now
